I adopted that activity (Can you Read This) and prepared a new worksheet of my own to this activity. A rhyme about superstitions in grade IV. "  You can walk under ladders What's wrong in that? You can see any number of jet black cats  No problem in that. You can break a million mirrors And not shed a tear It's all just stuff and nonsense Simply groundless fears." Topic : Basic Multiplication Concept Subject : Maths Grade : 2nd                                   Developing the primary concepts in the earlier stage is most difficult task to the teachers. And it is very important to establish the concept very clearly to that little brains. So we need proper method and TLM. Moreover presentation and involving the students to grasp the concept is a challenging  task.                      Here I have done an activity to teach the basic concept of the multiplication to my children. An Innovative Speaking Tool - MY SCHOOL

Image
Class: 2nd. Lesson: MY SCHOOL. Language Skills: Speaking.                          We know very well listening is more important in learning a language. In order to develop the rest of the language skills, we need to give much listening input to children, especially for second language learners. So such material will help teachers to speak about the content though they haven't good professional skills. And also create good English environment in the classroom. As the teachers, we need to concentrate on to engage the children in such activities and use some interactive learning materials to speak and write more.                        I prepared this speaking tool based on activity in our textbook to create some curiosity among children. I started the lesson "My School" by showing the model. I asked some interactive question based on their knowledge. I showed the model and explained the places in a school. And then I gave the below description. "This is

An Innovative Table Activity

Image
Class : 2 Topic : Introducing Tables. Lesson : Multiplication.             I am very thankful to TEACHING IDEAS face book page sharing these great classroom ideas. My 2nd grade children enjoyed a lot during this activity. Innovative teaching always leads to great output and can stimulate the children learning characteristics. If you ask your children to write the 2nd table in a book they will not show interest to write. But if you do these type of activities children's learning definitely amazing. It needs only planning and preparation.                    Here's a small activity I assigned to my children by supplying empty watches and asked them to write 2's table and prepare a watch like this. Even low proficiency children also done along with the A grade children.

MY SCHOOL RHYME

Image
Class: 2 Lesson: MY SCHOOL RHYME Language Skills: Speaking, Writing and Creative Expression.                          Children always enjoy the class when you make it joyful. And they enjoy the rhymes very well. In this rhyme, some action words sing, write and read and few adverbs loudly, neatly and joyfully are there. So teaching rhyme is not meant for the joy of children. We should concentrate on those language functions which they can use in real life situations. While teaching this rhyme I explained and made exercise to use those functions effectively. Here you can see my children how they were enjoying while singing the rhyme. Later I gave a small writing task with a craft activity. I asked my children to write "why do you love the school?" For this question, I supplied heart shapes to my children and asked them to write their reasons to love the school on it and paste in the answer paper in a flower shape. They did very well.    (Video)

Later I drag their attention to concentrate on the importance of trees, that's why we should care for the trees. Later I guided my children to write the advantages through a craft activity. Finally, they created a lovely garden.

Picture Interaction- Animating the Picture

Image
Class: 4 Lesson: Green is Life Topic: Picture Interaction Academic Standards: Speaking Reading, Writing and Creative Expression.                         The picture takes a vital role in learning. So transacting a picture in the lesson is very essential to achieve or target the academic skills. Because a picture can lead to developing the multi-skills in the children. So the transaction of the picture should be important in learning. If we drag the children's attention towards the picture it will be a good session. In order to achieve those skills, the transaction method of a picture should be effective. So as a teacher you need to think over it.                     Here I am going to discuss my method to transact a picture in the classroom. I have been using this method for a year and the results are amazing. After the interaction or transacting the picture, 80 percent of children in my class can able to speak and describe it. I am using COLLEAGUE BASED interacting method t

An Approach to Understand, Learn and Assess the ALPHABET better

Image
Subject : Language - English Class : PrePrimary and Ist Grade Skill : Reading and Writing.                    Children are not learning the language in our classrooms, they acquire the language. In order to learn the language skills you need to start with listening skill. Until and unless you are not giving good listening to them, language learning will not happen. So we need to follow the psychological order of language skills L, S, R and last W. So learning language in few schools has been hurry without of better understanding. That's why children are not responding to drawing interference questions.                              Coming to writing part and also learning the alphabet, we should first concentrate on recognizing the letter. So, to recognize the letters we need to provide such environment, worksheets and activities to the early school children. Later we should concentrate on tracing the letters. And then matching the upper and lower case alphabet. And then recog

Subject: English Lesson: A Nation's Strength poem Class: 4th Grade Skills: Creative Expression and writing. Objectives :    To understand the vocabulary   To use that vocabulary in those daily situations   To understand the people in the nation   To understand the moral and patriotic values of a citizen.                       We know very well every nation builds with people not with buildings. People are the nation. Some people work for the nation by doing a job in the Army, Navy, and Airforce. They are not working for their children and they scarify their lives to the nation. Through this poem I want to educate my children how are they working for their nation in the borders and who are the real citizens of a nation and what characters should we possess to be a good citizen. I educated my children by showing a video of the three forces, how the soldiers are working in the real field.               I asked my children to read the poem at once and identify the diff

NOUN SORT - Grammar Worksheets

Image
Class: 4th Grade Topic : Common Nouns and Proper Nouns Skill : Grammar                       Using grammar worksheets will help a lot to Government School children and teachers. I am always searching for such worksheets to teach grammar joyfully without any burden. If you teach grammar isolate to that age group children, their cognitive levels can't understand the grammar topics. So teaching grammar in primary schools should be in contextual. So I have been using such grammar activity sheets whether they understand the concept well or not.                                                After completion of explaining, I have instructed my children to read the nouns in the given worksheet, discuss with their partner and identify the common nouns and proper nouns. Later they have written in the table.   ( Thanks to that website to prepare the nice activity sheet. )

An Innovative Grammar Activity- Pronoun Garden

Image
Topic: Basic Pronouns Class: 4th Grade Skill: Grammar                    Teaching grammar to primary children is a major task. And I think some innovation in teaching the topic and worksheets will help our students to understand the topic easily. While I am explaining the topic got this idea.                    Then I told to my children we are going to design a pronoun garden in the next period. The next day I provided charts, paper petals, and colour pens and guided my children how to prepare flowers and garden. And then I told them to write the pronouns "He, She, It, and They", in the middle of the flower and write nouns related to the pronouns on petals. They completed their task and felt very happy by seeing their colourful garden.

An Interactive writing task on Community Helpers

Image
Topic: Community Helpers Class: Primary Skills: Writing, Reading, and Speaking.                                 A joyful classroom environment always leads to good learning even in a low resource classroom. Learner-centered teaching activities will give great results and can easily achieve multiple skills at a time. And moreover, students learn the language informally when they are engaged in such activities.                           While teaching the lesson "COMMUNITY HELPERS" I planned the activity to target speaking and writing skills after teaching about the community helpers. Along with that, I engaged my children with a ball game to enact like washerman, potter, and tailor..etc., for a better understanding of the characters. Activity:                          In this game, students stand in a circle and pass the ball while music plays. The person who holds the ball at the time music stops, he comes to the middle of the circle and pick the card an

An Outstanding Reading Activity to Primary School Children.(1st and 2nd Class)

Image
Class :2 Skill: Reading                        I don't know whether it is right or wrong, but it's giving super results in my class. My 2nd class children read the entire lesson without any difficulty. Especially children studying in Govt Primary Schools they didn't know the alphabets before school. Mostly rural background children are first generation child in their family. Teaching English to those children, especially who didn't go through the pre-schooling is more difficult. I have used this strategy to give the contextual meaning of new vocabulary and clear meaning of each and every sentence without translating into their mother tongue( Telugu)   {Read amazing reading activity post for the description of this activity} (Video)
