3 Writing tasks to help learners write better, more understandable English.

Topic: Techniques for writing tasks, Skill Focused: Writing, Grade: Primary and Lower Secondary .                                   Many students find it difficult to write in a cohesive, interesting and fluent style.  When we ask students to write, often we are just testing their skills rather than teaching them how to write or how to improve their writing.                    Sometimes, stating clear rules and expectations is just not enough. It may not work for all your students. That’s why you should also take a “lighter” path. What does that mean? It means that you can use non-intrusive motivation techniques that will inspire your students instead of scaring them. As a teacher, your role is to help each and every student improve themselves, acquire new skills, and become a better individual by the end of their time spent in school.                      So, here are my three techniques to help learners dig deeper when they write. 1. ROBO D.C - A Creative Activity and Transaction to Teach Degrees of Comparison.

Image
Topic: Degrees of Comparison, Grade: Secondary, Skills Focused: Grammar and Creative Expression.                                We would agree grammar is one of the most challenging. The reason is that it is not easy to motivate students, especially young students to learn grammar. Simply sitting kids down and explaining rules is not an option because they possess certain characteristics that make their learning different from that of adults. That's why we need clear contexts that help them connect and associate with the language. One way to achieve this is through theme-based instruction. So I always plan interesting activities to motivate my learners.                                I started the topic (Degrees of Comparison) by drawing some pictures on the board and asked them to observe and understand the concept of each group. I asked, "Are there any differences?" After their responses, I explained most of the adjectives have three different forms to show th

Lesson: My Mother (Written by Ravindranath Tagore.) Grade: Secondary, Skills focused: Writing and Creative Expression.                             This is a fun and crafty writing task to write about the mother. We did the activity after completion of the poem "My Mother" that was written by Ravindranath Tagore. Students of 8th grade prepared the card and presented to their mothers. "Watch the video." Hope you like this. Thank you.

Creative writing activity for plurals

Image
Topic: Plurals, Grade: Primary, Skills focused: Vocabulary                                Vocabulary is the heart of language. Teaching vocabulary in a conceptual way is one of the big challenges in the primary stage. Moreover learning vocabulary in an isolated way won't help to develop good speaking and writing skills. Vocabulary should learn or teach in a structural, meaningful, and contextual way.                                Here is a simple and creative writing activity for teaching fundamental rules of plurals. Some creative and engaging worksheets, strategies, and methods drag our children's attention to understand the topic from basics and also help them to use the words in multiple contexts. Download the Worksheet                                            Hope you enjoy the activity and thanks for reading.

My Likes - Creative Speaking Task for Grade I

Image
Topic: MY LIKES Grade: Preprimary and Grade I Skills focused: Speaking and creative expression.                                   Someone said, "Learning a foreign language is like a marathon, not a sprint. It takes time, progress is slow and incremental, and there can be many setbacks along the way." So language learners first need to have a growth mindset. This is when they believe that their abilities in learning a language are not fixed but can be developed. Not all learners will reach the same level of proficiency, but with the right kind of effort, strategies, and investment of time and will, every learner can improve.                             So some innovative strategies and activities will develop learners internal skills and make them active participants in the learning process. So as teachers we need to concentrate more speaking and creative activities to make young learners speak and listen more.                             Here is a creative fun sp

Speaking and writing task to teach MY FAMILY for young learners.

Image
Topic: MY FAMILY Grade: Pre-primary and primary Skills focused: Speaking and writing.               Teaching to young learners is a quite hard task for teachers. And moreover teaching English as a second or third language is very difficult for teachers. They have a lot of energy. Rather than trying to squash this energy, find positive ways to use it in the classroom. You want to create a safe, stress-free environment that everyone can enjoy learning in. And also it is important to make your lessons relaxed, fun and creative so that students get moving around and speaking with one another.  So I have been trying to plan my lessons fun, interesting and creative. Here I have prepared an innovative model to teach and plan a speaking activity for my children. By using this model I have made them speak a few sentences about their family in order to only learn family members names (father, mother...etc.) I also use the same model for multi-grade children (level specific teac

My Lovely Family Rhyme - Innovative transaction

Image
Topic: My Lovely Family Rhyme. Grade: Preprimary and 1st grade. Skills: Listening and Creative Expression.                  Children love rhymes and also the repetition of words, ideas, and skills are important for early brain development, as it creates secure foundations for early learning. Using rhyme, rhythm and repetition in song, while reading or even to make up your own rhymes, is great fun for children.                   Children will dramatize rhymes to develop language, literacy, creative thinking, and social skills. Most children enjoy hearing and participating in rhyming activities, and when they are exposed to rhyming, they usually pick it up naturally.                    So I always play my lesson/rhyme in a meaningful and enjoyable way. Here is my tiny attempt of a rhyme "My lovely family" which was given in the 1st-grade textbook.  The rhyme is... He is, he is, he is, He is my caring father, She is, she is, she is, She is my loving mothe

"Learner Centered Grammar Activities for Primary Classes."

Image
Topic: Common Nouns vs Proper Nouns Skills: Grammar, Speaking Reading, and Creative Expression. Grade: Primary.                  Grammar is a very difficult part to teach and also learn to children. We cannot teach grammar in a formal way to the primary children since they don't have such cognitive capacity to understand the rules. So we should teach in a contextual way. We derive the content from known to unknown and establish the rules finally. So I always plan and develop different innovative activities to teach grammar topics for my primary students.  I panned this activity to teach Common and Proper Nouns for my 4th-grade children. I designed this worksheet to understand the topic easily and attract them towards the class. Once I gave an explanation about the Common and Proper Nouns, I played them a language game.  Language game: “Sit and stand”  It’s a just a simple sit and stand game. If you say sit children will sit, say stand they will stand.  But
