An Innovative Grammar Activity- Pronoun Garden

Image
Topic: Basic Pronouns Class: 4th Grade Skill: Grammar                    Teaching grammar to primary children is a major task. And I think some innovation in teaching the topic and worksheets will help our students to understand the topic easily. While I am explaining the topic got this idea.                    Then I told to my children we are going to design a pronoun garden in the next period. The next day I provided charts, paper petals, and colour pens and guided my children how to prepare flowers and garden. And then I told them to write the pronouns "He, She, It, and They", in the middle of the flower and write nouns related to the pronouns on petals. They completed their task and felt very happy by seeing their colourful garden.

Topic: Community Helpers Class: Primary Skills: Writing, Reading, and Speaking.                                 A joyful classroom environment always leads to good learning even in a low resource classroom. Learner-centered teaching activities will give great results and can easily achieve multiple skills at a time. And moreover, students learn the language informally when they are engaged in such activities.                           While teaching the lesson "COMMUNITY HELPERS" I planned the activity to target speaking and writing skills after teaching about the community helpers. Along with that, I engaged my children with a ball game to enact like washerman, potter, and tailor..etc., for a better understanding of the characters. Activity:                   ...

An Outstanding Reading Activity to Primary School Children.(1st and 2nd Class)

Image
Class :2 Skill: Reading                        I don't know whether it is right or wrong, but it's giving super results in my class. My 2nd class children read the entire lesson without any difficulty. Especially children studying in Govt Primary Schools they didn't know the alphabets before school. Mostly rural background children are first generation child in their family. Teaching English to those children, especially who didn't go through the pre-schooling is more difficult. I have used this strategy to give the contextual meaning of new vocabulary and clear meaning of each and every sentence without translating into their mother tongue( Telugu)   {Read amazing reading activity post for the description of this activity} (Video)

Class: 2nd Lesson: My habits Academic Standards: Speaking and writing.                 My Habits Rhyme gave good exposure to my 2nd class children to speak and respond to their daily routines. I connected this lesson with their daily activities and few speaking activities gave good exercise to use the language in their real-life situations.               I started teaching the rhyme with a video of daily routines. I explained these are our daily routines and we should do these works for a healthy life. So we called these are good habits. I elicited related vocabulary waking up, brushing, bathing, playing, and going to school.              Later I gave flashcards to my children to speak and explained the habit. Like all the children explained their flashcards. Students presented like... She is brushing. He is bathing He is reading. She is goin...

A strategy for developing "Reading Skills"

Image
Grade: Primary and Slow Learners Language Skill: Reading. Picture/Story Cards Method:                             My children are very poor in English and it was quite difficult to develop reading skills with them. They couldn't even understand simple stories without me translating into the mother tongue. So, to reduce the reading burden and help them understand, I prepared picture or story cards for every lesson. I turned each story into a picture story by preparing picture cards for every sentence in the story. The cards illustrated the contextual meaning of each sentence and key vocabulary, so if a story had 30 sentences, I prepared 30 pictures based on the keywords in each sentence. Then I began telling the stories using these pictures.                            After two or three periods the students were able to recite the s...

Grade: 2 Language Skills Focused: Speaking, Reading and Writing.              An interactive teaching material will always leads to great output in teaching. Children in early school days they love to learn in play way method. So as a teacher we should prepare such innovative or interactive TLM regarding the content.               I was very happy  to share my children responses because I didn't expect my learning strategies will lead to achieve such objectives.              I planned this lesson using some picture cards. I acted like these animals what they can do during the lesson. And asked my children to imitate like me. Once they were confident with oral responses I guided them to write on paper. I prepared a worksheet to colour and write about abilities of those animals. (Written Worksheets) (Picture Cards) (Oral Responses-...
