Global Warming and Green House Effect- Lesson Plan and Activities.

Topic: Global Warming

Subject: Social science

Grade: Primary

Skills: Speaking, writing, and creative thinking

Objectives: Students are able to

  • understand the concept of global warming and the greenhouse effect.
  • describe the reasons for the greenhouse effect and its effects.
  • give examples of potential problems and negative consequences of global warming and the greenhouse effect.
  • project the concept through a poster.
  • suggest actions to reduce the greenhouse effect in order to save our planet.

Preparatory:

Task 1:
  • Display the below picture to the class.
  • Let the students respond.
Suggested questions:
  1. What is happening in the images?
  2. Have you ever seen are experienced such situations?
  3. What are the reasons for happening such situations?
  4. What do we call these actions?
You can add your own questions according to your students.

Explain that these are all happening due to climate change. “Climate change” refers to the increasing changes in the measures of climate over a long period of time – including precipitation, temperature, and wind patterns.
And global warming is one of the reasons for climate change. “Global warming” refers to the rise in global temperatures due mainly to the increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Presentation:
Task 1:
  • Tell the students to watch a video on climate change.
  • Lead students to talk about the video clip.
Suggested questions:
  1. What t is the video about?
  2. Which major gas is increased in the atmosphere?
  3. What is the greenhouse effect?
  4. How does CO2 increase the heat in the atmosphere?

Task 2:
  •  After the interaction with the video tell the students to prepare a poster of the greenhouse effect.
  • Distribute the colour paper and pencils.
  • Guide them on how to prepare the poster.
  • Use the below poster as a model.
  • Once they prepared the poster tell them to present.

Task 3:
After the preparation of the poster and presentation ask students the preventive actions to reduce global warming and the greenhouse effect. Let them speak and share their own ideas. After the interactions tell them they are going to watch another video.
  • Tell the students to watch a video on Climate Change - We are the PROBLEM & the SOLUTION.
  • Lead students to talk about the video clip.

Task 4:
  • Play the video once again.
  • Tell students to observe the situations and actions.
  • Tell them to write done the problems of global warming and possible solutions to reduce global warming.
  • Students observe and write their responses.
  • .Distribute the task sheet.
  •  If necessary play the video again.
Download the Worksheet.

Production:
  • Tell the students to prepare 'Save Our Planet' caps.'
  • Distribute pictures of preventive actions to save the planet given in the above worksheet.
  • In groups, students discuss each other and prepare the caps.
  • Students explain "How they can help our planet?"
Suggested explanation:
" I can help my earth by planting trees, growing forests, riding my bicycle, saving water, and recycling the garbage."
