"An interesting technique to transact a picture or story."

Topic: Picture translation.
Lesson: The best reward.
Skills: Listening and speaking.
Grade: 5th grade and above.

Here I am going to introduce a new story teaching technique for teachers to make their teaching process success and interesting. It will turn your normal classroom into a digital classroom as you play a video on the board though you have no projector. It will give definitely great results because the main feature of this technique is moving pictures as per your content. this will give live experience to your students as they are watching a video. I used this technique to teach below paragraph.

"Victory to you Maharaja!" said the hunter to Sri Krishnadevaraya with a beautiful parrot in his hands. The king raised his hand and asked him to come near. The hunter went near the king. "This parrot is beautiful", the king said. "Yes, your Majesty! This can be a pleasant company to her Highness, the Maharani." The hunter handed over the parrot to the king. The king duly rewarded the hunter and sent the parrot to the queen Tirumala Devi. The queen, in her turn, put the bird in a golden cage.
First I have prepared puppets of the characters in the paragraph. Along with that, I have prepared two cages one for an iron cage and another one is a golden cage. The three characters are a hunter, king, and queen. I have stuck a straw at the back side of the every puppet to pass a thread. You can observe in the below picture that every picture has a thread to move front and back.
Then I have stuck both ends of the thread on the board tightly in proper order as per the story. And I have drawn rest of drawings to get the complete scene. Just scroll down to know the detail transaction.

(See the puppets positions at the final stage of the story.)

1st setting:
In this pic, you can see a hunter came with a parrot to a king's court. Just observe the distance between the king and the hunter. After placing the puppets like this, I have asked a lot of questions about the story and characters. I have written their responses on the board. One of the main questions is "How is a person praises a king when he visits him?" Though my children don't know the answer I have asked to practice the first sentence in the paragraph. Then I have given the answer "Victory to you Maharaj." by moving the hunter puppet front and back. After that, when I have moved the hunter puppet they spontaneously say the sentence.

2nd setting:
Then I have said another sentence "The king raised his hand and asked him to come near." by shaking the king puppet. Then I have said another sentence by moving the hunter puppet near to the king "the hunter went near to the king and showed the parrot."

(Observe the distance between the hunter and the king. I moved the hunter puppet near to the king.)

     3rd Setting:
In this picture you can see the position of the parrot, it is in the king's hand. So I have continued the story "this parrot is beautiful", the king said. "Yes, your Majesty! This can be a pleasant company to her Highness, the Maharani." The hunter handed over the parrot to the king. The king duly rewarded the hunter." by moving the parrot to the king's hand and placed a money bag in the hunter's hand.
(Observe the position of the parrot and money in the hunter's hand.)

4th setting:
Then I have continued the story "the king sent the parrot to the queen Tirumala Devi. The queen, in her turn, put the bird in a golden cage." by turning the iron cage back and new parrot cage and the queen's puppet.

(Observe the distance between the king and the hunter and golden parrot cage at the queen's puppet.)

So my children are very attractive to this technique and they repeat the entire paragraph when I am moving the puppets. And also it helps me a lot to not to translate the story into their mother tongue and creates a fully English environment in the class. So using the material in an innovative way is a great achievement in teaching. I hope this technique will help you a lot to change your teaching strategy.
