4 practical ways and activities to improve writing skills.

Improving writing skills to primary children is the biggest challenge for teachers. Especially the students who are learning English as a second language are getting much trouble to improve writing skills. Here I am discussing some practical tips and activities which I have been using in my classroom to my young learners. 

                       We know very well, writing is the utmost skill. It means it's a hard skill for primary children. And in the LSRW, listening leads to speaking and reading leads to writing. So a student wants to speak he should listen well as well as he wants to write he should read well. So we should concentrate on reading to get good writing skills. But most of the teachers are not following the psychological order of language skills. So you want to develop writing skills first concentrate on speaking and reading skills. So you need to give such speaking and reading activities in order to get good writing skills.                   …

Integrated Technology Teaching to the Low Proficient Children

                After I was appointed as a secondary grade teacher in a Govt Primary School, I faced a lot of problems with multi-class teaching and teach to the low proficiency children. Mostly 90% of children in Govt schools are first generation children in the education of their family. So parents follow up and assistance was nil to those children. So in my early teaching days, I had used pictures, charts and models to teach the concepts and language items prepared by cardboards, charts and other materials. I noticed some progress in my children's learning but not up to the expected level. And the learning standards of B and C grade children were not improved.
                           Later I conducted action research on low proficiency children and studied about learning styles of a child, Then I come to know that teaching and satisfying their learning characteristics differs from individual to individual. So how should I start? Using pictures, flashcards, models or videos. But drawing pictures to each and every sentence is difficult. So I started making videos of given lessons in the textbook
                                     By inspiring the world teachers I started preparing every Telugu lesson into videos to better learning. In these videos, suppose a word PALAKA (పలక) in Telugu, I animated like to appear letters one after another and last picture, it means the first ప comes, next ల, next క,  and then picture last. So children are concentrating, memorize the letters and understanding the word very well. From the next day, children were eagerly waiting for me and ask me to play those videos. During the learning process, they are competing to complete the lesson and going for an evaluation to read the next lesson. I used to play those videos on my laptop and school tab. Coming to the assessment part I recorded their reading skills and showed them for improvement. Coming to the writing skills I used some worksheets to trace and practice the alphabets and assess their learning. Like this consisting teaching with videos and worksheets, children progress was excellent.Now I am posting these videos describing how to use and transact in use in your classroom.
